Moving Right Along

WOW! Days are flying by faster than the dark chocolate disappears out of my freezer! I can not believe that it's already half way through October! In the past month we had a baby shower, drove across the country, Cole started work again at Fort Bragg and WE BOUGHT A HOUSE! If everything goes as planned (fingers crossed) we will be moved in by the end of the month! Aside from the big move and buying a house, we've reached the 2 month countdown until our baby's due date. Eeek! With everything in boxes, I'm starting to feel pretty antsy about getting unpacked, setting up the nursery and buying the last few things we'll need before she gets here... it will all get done, though, right?! At least my mom and sister will be coming out for Thanksgiving! I can't wait for our first turkey day in our new place!

Current craving: gold fish crackers

Happy Birth Month, Mom!

Even though my Mom technically celebrated her birthday last Tuesday, she insists that she celebrates for the entire month of September. This means it's not too late to honor my mother during her birth month!

Mom,

You are truly an individual.
I admire how hard you work at everything you do.
You are determined, organized, creative, thoughtful and strong.
You are an outstanding sister, wife, mother, teacher and friend.
Thank you for being my role model and thank you for all of your advice and guidance.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY (AND BIRTH MONTH)! I LOVE YOU!

It's a G Thing

Since I'm currently a SAHMTB (Stay At Home Mommy To Be), my days are spent nesting, practicing my domestic skills and taking care of Griffin. Griffin is our Chihuahua mix pup who basically commands the house. His interests include walking, treats, dog parks, breakfast, sleeping, playing, begging and dinner. He is currently 11 months old and knows how to sit, stay, lay down and shake (when there is a treat involved).

I got Griffin right before Cole left to go to OCS for four months. My ex-boss fosters kittens at the Nevada Humane Society, and she brought a tiny 8 week old Griffin back to the office one day. She was going to New York, and let me keep him for the week. That week has turned into forever, and Griffin has brought so much joy to our lives. He has the funniest personality and is constantly making us smile. I've been warning poor G that he's going to have to share his home and our affection with a baby in a couple of months. I'm worried about how he will react, but honestly, I don't see him being any less important in our lives. I think I have enough room in my heart for a growing family ;)

Hey Baby, It Looks Like Rain

I just received an invitation in the mail today for my baby shower! Wow! I'm having a baby shower! Crazy! My amazing sister, Jennifer, and my friend, Jessica, are co-hosting it! (I'm so lucky!) Check out how adorable they are:

They are from a company called Tiny Prints, and I am utterly obsessed! They also carry stationary and personalized greeting cards for any and every occasion! I'm so excited for all of my friends and family to get their cute invites, and I'm hoping I'll get a chance to see everyone before we ship out to North Carolina.

Current craving: maple donuts (don't judge me!)

Bisbee, AZ

Being at home all week while Cole is at school makes me really look forward to the weekends! This weekend we headed up to Bisbee, AZ with some friends. While I'm not very good with directions or geography, I can tell you that Bisbee is a little over 30 minutes away from Ft. Huachuca/Sierra Vista. It's a pretty easy drive as long as you can get past the whole "hills have eyes" feeling... Anyways, Bisbee used to be a mining town, but now it is more of a hippy hangout tourist attraction. There are tons of mini art galleries, antique shops, bars and B&B's. It kind of reminds me of a cross between Placerville and Coloma. We ate at Santiago's (cheese enchiladas), walked down main street, met a pot head potter, had drinks at The Copper City Hotel Bar (virgin strawberry daiquiri) and hung out at the Old Bisbee Brewing Co. (homemade root beer).

Current Craving: Bangkok Cuisine in Reno (chicken yellow curry and chicken pud thai with the potato flat bread...mmmmmm)

Ready For What's Next

Cole and I just found out we will be having a baby girl this December! It was so amazing to share this experience together as we watched the ultrasound and found out our fate! Not only will we be growing our family, we'll also be making a new home for ourselves in Fayetteville, North Carolina where Cole will be stationed at Fort Bragg as an Military Intelligence Officer in the Army. These two big changes, along with some inspiration and encouragement from my friend, Kerry, prompted me to start this blog.

We are thrilled by all the possibilities our futures hold, but more than a little sad to be moving away from family and friends in California and Nevada. For me, home will always be California. It's where my parents are, where I grew up, and where some of my most cherished memories live.
However, as I grew up, got married, moved away and went to college I found a new town that felt like it could be our home: Reno.

After spending over five years in the biggest little city, Cole and I made amazing friends through school, jobs and our fraternities. It's hard leaving this group of friends, but it's time for us to take the next step.

Last December Cole was accepted to attend Officer Candidate School (OCS), where he excelled and later branched Military Intelligence. After graduating from OCS, we packed up everything in Reno and caravanned with our little dog, Griffin, to Fort Huachuca, AZ for four months of schooling. From here we're headed to North Carolina!

So, in short, I hope this blog will provide me:

  • a way to stay connected to friends and family

  • a place to share our adventures

  • an opportunity to write

A side note: I decided to title this blog "Math in My Head" mainly because I can't do math in my head. I guess it's my own funny little metaphor for figuring things out. I'm young without a myriad of life experiences, but I have confidence in myself that I can figure it out...eventually (and sometimes with the help of a calculator)!

Current craving: Hot Chocolate with whipped cream (yum!)
